Is Running Music Dangerous

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Running with music is a great idea, as long as you follow some common sense rules.

This article explores the question, Is Running Music Dangerous?  The major answer is absolutely not, as long as you use common sense.

Running with music can be a powerful motivational tool and it’s benefits should not be overlooked by any avid runner or jogger.  However certain precautions should be taken.  Listening to music can disrupt a critical sense, the sense of hearing the things around you.  The primary dangers is a limiting of your ability to hear vehicles or other potentially dangerous obstacles.

Some important things to consider is to think of ways to listen to your motivating and invigorating running music without completely hindering your ability to hear.  We recommend not using noise cancelling or “ear plug style” headphones.  While those headphones are great for the airplane or in the bus, they are not the best option for running as the completely block all sounds around you.  If you only have noise cancelling headphones consider purchasing a simpler cheaper pair of headphones or running with only one earpiece in.

As long as you follow these simple rules using Running Music during your Jogging will be just as safe as without, and running with Running Music is certainly a lot more fun and easier to accomplish as we explain in our article Why does running with music make running so much easier?

How to find your BPM for Running Music

If you’ve read about Running Music you’ve probably also read about the fact that you need to find a BPM which is good for you, this handy dandy tutorial will teach you how to calculate the BPM perfect for you!

People Naturally have a hard time keeping pace!

That’s right, people can’t really grasp the speeds they need to be at to run effectively.  For example someone will start off running to fast and “Burn Themselves out” to quickly, on the flipside some people run slower then they really can thus not maximizing their exercising potential.

What needs to happen is you need to find your optimal BPM (which can improve and change over time) and then use Music to keep you at that optimal BPM throughout your entire run.

Steps for Finding your BPM Outdoors

1. Run straight for 15 minutes at your most comfortable pace
2. Count the number of steps in your first minute of running, then count the number of steps in your 5th minute 10th minute and 15th minute you will use all those steps to come to an average.
3. To get an average add all your 1st, 5th, 10th, and 15th minute number of steps up, and then divide by 4 to get the Average number of steps per minute.

Your average number of steps per minute is your Optimal BPM (Beats Per Minute)

Now that you have found your optimal BPM it’s time to check out some music which might fit you in particular.
